The GSC is an integral part of the infrastructure of Europe’s Galileo navigation program. Its main mission is to provide support services and consultancy for user communities of the system’s open service and commercial service. The center will also be the system access point for operators of commercial services provided through Galileo satellites. The center will drive tasks like the compilation of information from the user community and support the worldwide development of Galileo. The GSC is conceived as a center for pooling experience, swapping knowledge, spreading information further afield and supporting the provision of high added-value Galileo-based services. The consortium will be responsible for developing the center and ensuring it meets all European Union requirements. The GSC will be housed in the National Institute of Aerospace Technologies (Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial: INTA) at Torrejón de Ardoz, Madrid. GMV has played a key role in the European satellite navigation program Galileo right from the start. This new contract is now to be added to a long line of previous contracts including the supply of several key elements for the system’s ground segment such as OSPF (Orbit & Synchronisation Processing Facility), IPF (Integrity Processing Facility), SPF (Service Product Facility), FDF (Flight Dynamics Facility) and MNE (MDDN Network equipment). GMV is also currently the main contractor for providing Galileo’s essential Timing and Geodetic Validation Facility (TGVF) services and is leading the development of Galileo’s commercial service (CS) demonstrator.
