GMV has been one of the collaborators in drawing up this report, with the input of Javier Zubieta, Business Development Manager of GMV Secure e-Solutions. The report analyzes the current state of the concepts “Protection of Critical Infrastructure” and “Industrial Cybersecurity”, clearing up the meaning of each term. Although they are often used as synonyms they in fact have many significant differences as well as points in common. The last few years have been rife in important events in this field, ranging from 9/11 to the recent cyber espionage episodes perpetrated by states (Mandiant report) or corporate spies in search of personal profit of strategic advantage, using increasingly advanced techniques. Other outstanding examples are the threats of Anonymous, Wikileaks and the effects of malware such as Stuxnet. All these threats have prompted most governments to draw up national cybersecurity strategies and protection measures to guarantee the security of critical infrastructure.
