This contract represents an investment of more than 2 million euros and was the subject of a public tender called by the APA.The Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) is a maritime traffic monitoring system that is similar to air traffic control, and it also enables communication with relief and rescue organizations.VTS systems play a key role in maritime traffic surveillance, enabling the movement of vessels to be tracked and ensuring safety in areas with navigation restrictions. The modernization will help reduce the risk of accidents and minimize any environmental impact.State-of-the-art technology for increased safetyPursuant to the stringent requirements of the International Organization for Marine Aids to Navigation (IALA), the solution will be implemented using solid-state radars operating in the X-band, ensuring outstanding detection capabilities even in low visibility and adverse weather conditions. In addition to five new generation solid-state radars, the new system will include:-Radio Direction Finder (RDF) technology-Automatic Identification System (AIS) stations-VHF radio communication system-Recording and storage of data (video and audio)-Weather stations, among othersFollowing this modernization, VTS systems will be remotely accessible online, thus allowing authorized operators to monitor maritime traffic from any location. In addition, pilots will be able to monitor navigation directly on board the vessels through Portable Pilot Units (PPUs).With over 40 years' experience in technological innovation, GMV has established itself as a global leader in the provision of advanced navigation, security and control solutions for strategic sectors such as aerospace, defense and transport. Its commitment to excellence and constant investment in R&D&I have enabled the company to develop pioneering systems that improve the efficiency and security of critical infrastructures throughout the world. The modernization of the VTS systems in the ports of Aveiro and Figueira da Foz is yet another instance of GMV's leadership in the field of maritime traffic management, reaffirming its mission of providing cutting-edge technology to optimize operations and ensure safety in complex environments.
