This fifteen-month European Commission project aims at defining a verification procedure for EGNOS-enabled mass-market receivers, with the purpose of checking and certifying the use (and performance level) of the EGNOS signal in the products under certification. The certification procedure allows manufacturers to voluntarily certify their non-Safety-Of-Life products to boost their added value and bring home this value to end users, including a label with an identifying logo. This certification procedure is based on the receiver’s performance (accuracy, robustness,…) when subjected to a series of stress tests, following the ‘black box’ paradigm, freeing receiver design from restrictions and favoring innovation towards solutions that continually hone EGNOS’s positioning performance.
