GMV collaborated in the event by providing the telemetry service of the trial vehicles. Each one of the vehicles taking part in the competition was fitted with onboard equipment connected up to a vehicle control center. This recorded all the relevant driving details such as acceleration, braking, speed or distance covered. After the trial a complete personalized report could thus be drawn up for each vehicle. This report was then made available to all participants to enable them to check their telemetry information. This eighth tour involved the participation of 18 makes, 23 vehicles and 46 people. The first day’s leg ran from Las Rozas (Madrid) to Almagro (Ciudad Real). In the second stage all the participants set off for Boadilla del Monte (Madrid) to end the trial there. This year’s trial, outdoing the participation of previous years, ran along 300 kilometres of one-lane roads, freeways and city roads per stage, showing the fleet-management and vehicle-renting company’s commitment to the protection of the environment. In this year’s ALD Ecomotion Tour the lowest fuel-consumption vehicle and competition winner was a Ford Mondeo which managed to reduce fuel consumption figures by 17.65%. As well as this overall winner, within the category of cars with emissions of less than 118 grams, Ecomotion Tour also had other prize-winners, like a BMW M4 in the category of cars with emissions of over 118 grams, a Toyota Auris among the hybrid vehicles, a Fiat Dobló Cargo in the class of light vans and, lastly, a Mazda CX5 in the class of SUV-all-terrain vehicles. The biggest success of the competition was to demonstrate anew that appropriate driving behaviour is the best way to cut down fuel consumption and emission volumes, an objective on which manufacturers are now spending more and more time and money.
