VALEMA

The purpose of the GMV-led VALEMA project is to manufacture Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and complete certification activities on these Units within the framework of EMA4FLIGHT.

This project was financed with funds from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under subsidization agreement No. 755615.

The VALEMA project has two objectives:

  • First, to manufacture and assemble units (EMAs and ECUs) previously designed and developed within the framework of the EMA4FLIGHT project (development of electro-mechanical actuators and electronic control units for flight control systems) for conducting in-flight testing.
  • And, second, to conduct certification activities for ECU hardware and software in order to obtain a permit to fly in the FTB2 demonstrator of regional aircraft.

Interproject Coordination

The manufacturing side will include an in-depth analysis of manufacturing processes and materials, qualification testing, search for new processes that make the most of manufacturing time and reduce the amount of raw material used as well as the environmental impact.

Meanwhile, the certification activities will be aimed at obtaining the flight permit from the competent Airworthiness Authorities for the design of the ECU hardware for the aileron or spoiler (per DO-254) and for the design of the ECU software for the aileron or spoiler (per DO-178C).

These activities are considered the final step in hardware and software design for the development of the ECUs for aileron or spoiler that will be carried out in the EMA4FLIGHT project, so the innovation work done within this project will also be beneficial.
