This scheme not only encourages the transfer of knowledge between the academic and industrial worlds but also sets out to strengthen the entrepreneurial fabric of Poland’s booming space sector. GMV has joined in this new initiative, run under the aegis of the Ministry of Economics and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, finally providing a career opportunity for eleven youngsters like Justyna Baska, a graduate of Warsaw’s Technical University. Justyna has now joined GMV’s team to take part in a project to create a simulator for a scatterometer to be used on the MetOp-SG satellite. Under this scheme 80% of the selected students in past years have finally become permanent employees of the companies where they carried out their initial six-month internship. Since 2012 the Polish Space Industry Association (ZPSK) has pooled space organizations like GMV with the overarching idea of positioning Poland’s space industry in the European vanguard. It also promotes collaboration in the creation of a space policy at national level.
