Castilla y León’s Open-Data Portal, set up jointly by GMV and the Junta, pools a set of public data – including statistical, cartographic, administrative and environmental information – made available free of charge to the public at large by the Junta. This data is offered in open-source format and with a free usage license so that any citizen can use, reuse and distribute the data to generate added value. This initiative also aims to encourage collaboration between government and governed for the creation of projects that generate social and economic improvement by means of joint work between the society and public and private institutions. GMV is supporting this project for another year as part of its ongoing pledge to the opening-up, reuse and harnessing of data and in recognition of the importance of transparency and support of budding talent. GMV is participating as a jury member to choose the prizewinning projects and is also sponsoring one of the three prizes to be awarded. The prizes are awarded in three categories: firstly the best handheld application; secondly the best web application or technological development, the best work of data journalism, report or study; and thirdly the best student Project.
