GMV Participates at the 2nd Andalusia Cybersecurity Congress

As part of the Andalusia Cybersecurity Strategy 2022-2025, the regional government of Andalusia and the Andalusia Digital Agency (ADA) recently hosted the 2nd Andalusia Cybersecurity Congress. This event brought together all of the actors involved in this Spanish region’s digital renewal, as a way to help confront emerging global cybersecurity challenges and allow Andalusia to act as a point of reference on this subject.

Representatives from the public administration and private IT security organizations, along with professionals such as Ana Romero, Cybersecurity Manager for the Galileo Ground Control Segment of GMV’s Secure e-Solutions sector, met to discuss the latest trends in cybersecurity and analyze the current and future status of the field.

Specifically, Ms Romero presented an overview of cybersecurity in relation to navigation systems that provide services in both military and civilian contexts. These are services that most people are not very familiar with. A good example of how these navigation systems are used is maritime search and rescue. As she explained, currently “the entry of new actors into this space is also increasing the potential for these services to be compromised by a cyberattack”. Therefore, “cybersecurity by design, throughout the entire life cycle, is the best way to secure these systems and mitigate risks”.

In addition to participating during the sessions at the Congress, GMV also had its own stand at the event, where the company’s representatives met with clients, collaborators, and local authorities. Those visitors included Antonio Sanz, Andalusia’s Regional Minister of the Presidency, Interior, Social Dialogue and Administrative Simplification, and Raúl Jiménez, Managing Director of the ADA. They expressed their interest in GMV’s activities in the field of cybersecurity, such as the company’s cybersecurity management for Galileo, which is the European Union’s global navigation satellite system (GNSS) that offers free signals for use by governments, companies, and the public.

Since 2018, GMV has been in charge of the ground control segment for the Galileo program, including responsibility for its maintenance, evolution, and updating. An especially important part of those activities is the emphasis that GMV puts on cybersecurity for that infrastructure.

It is also worth mentioning that one of the objectives of the Andalusia Cybersecurity Strategy 2022-2025 is to adapt, advance, and strengthen the existing capacities for preventing, detecting, and responding to incidents that could affect the region’s governmental agencies and public-sector bodies.
