This event brought together a wide range of important actors involved in creating a digital future in Europe and worldwide, with the aim of ensuring that all participants can obtain full value from their data through equal access to secure and sovereign data exchanges among trusted partners. Pablo González, a data scientist who leads a BigData and analytics team at GMV, participated in the panel discussion entitled “Data Spaces Business Value & Data Monetarization”, where he presented GMV’s uTile tool, which is based on Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET). He explained this tool’s applications in research and for obtaining information of value in a variety of industries. Using tourism as an example, during his presentation Mr. González described a use case where GMV’s technology allowed calculation of average daily room rates based on a data space set up by various hotels, without the need to remove the data from each hotel’s respective repository, and without any of the hotels having access to the rates of their competitors. The event was held in the Netherlands in the city of The Hague, and it was organized by the Center of Excellence for Data Sharing and Cloud (TNO), the International Data Spaces Association, the Basic Data Infrastructure network, and the Data Spaces Support Centre, with support from the Data Spaces Business Alliance along with EUHubs4Data and MyData Global. This #DataSpacesSymposium featured participation by the major European players in Data Spaces, such as the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA), Data Spaces Support Centre, Big Data Value Association (BDVA), FIWARE, Gaia-X Association for Data and Cloud (AISBL), EUHubs4Data - European Federation of Data Driven Innovation Hubs, DATES Tourism Data Space, and Data Space for Tourism. Creation of the European data space is already in progress, and in October 2022, the International Data Spaces Association announce launching of a project to set up and operate the Data Spaces Support Centre. With funding from the European Commission as part of the Digital Europe Programme, the Data Space Support Centre will be coordinating all of the relevant actions regarding industry data spaces in Europe.
