After a public tender GMV was chosen as the ideal firm for carrying out this project. GMV has built up an in-depth knowledge of UAM’s email architecture since installing the system in 2008 and developing it ever since. This was one of the main reasons it won the contract; another important virtue was its wealth of experience in implementing, maintaining and operating email platforms based on open source software, especially in the public sector. The main improvements phased in by GMV under this contract are the following: an email-infrastructure monitoring system extendible to UAM’s other existing servers; a centralized configuration management system for making server-configuration changes from a central server and carrying out tasks remotely from a centralized server. Anti-spam elements have also been included, such as domain key identified mail (DKIM) and control over the number of emails to be issued by a given user in a set time interval. The existing statistics system has been replaced by a relational database and a documentary wiki has also been set up. Thanks to GMV’s collaboration the university now boasts a completely updated email infrastructure with an architecture based on simplicity, security and the most efficient performance, using the most suitable open-source products in each case.
