How can Spatial Data Serve the Financial Sector?

In the context of the EO-FIN initiative funded by the European Space Agency (ESA), a workshop entitled “Spatial Data for Financial Management” has been organized by ESA, GMV, and London Economics, to be held on February 16th and 17th.

The financial management industry is under increasing pressure, from regulators, clients, and their own shareholders, to play a more active role in the ecological transition. In relation to topics such as green finance, investment management, insurance, and risk analysis, participants in that industry have a need to increase their knowledge and perform better monitoring and mitigation of the complex risks to which their projects and portfolios are exposed.

However, when integrating ESG factors and concerns about sustainability into the financial world, there is still a need to address problems involving compilation, tracking, and verification of data. In view of the increasing regulation that now exists in most industries and regions, there is an urgent need to replace traditional reliance on estimates and indirect proxy measures with new reporting tools and fact-based data sources.

The “Spatial Data for Financial Management” workshop, which will be held online, represents an introduction to emerging spatial data solutions in financial management, with the event also providing opportunities to share perspectives and experiences on this subject.
