Launched back in February, the Amazonas 3 satellite was designed and built on an LS 1300 platform for the Spanish operator Hispasat by Space Systems Loral. Hispasat’s new satellite will provide thousands of people on the entire American continent with a great variety of advanced broadband services like high-speed internet and interactive services to meet this region’s growing demand for the information society. It would have been very difficult to roll out these services using earthbound networks. GMV, under a contract with Hispasat, has developed the flight-control and satellite-operation and –control systems, both developed from GMV’s inhouse family of products, focusGEO and hifly®. These products are also being used by Hispasat for operating the other satellites of its fleet. During the event, attended by representatives of telecommunications operators, technology providers and manufacturers of the various devices, the technical characteristics and new services of Hispasat’s latest satellite were explained and presented.
