The downside is that decision-making based on machine learning can be unfair, recreating biased historical data. Machine learning’s impact on society, growing concerns about its transparency and fairness have all come to a head in recent days. All this was the grist of the master class given by José Carlos Baquero, Manager of the Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Division of GMV’s Secure e-Solutions sector in the Summer School Data of the Universidad de Valencia. The 2018 Summer School Data focused on the challenges of the twenty-first century, data, information and communication, all dealt with in a multidisciplinary approach with the support of Utrecht Network (a network made up by 32 universities from 27 European Countries), the Higher Engineering School (Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería) and Valencia University’s schools of economics, philology, translation and communications.
