Thaicom successfylly operating the Thaicom 6 satellite

09/01/2014
Share

On 31 January the Thaicom 6 satellite entered its operational phase thanks to GMV’s flight dynamics and monitoring and control systems. In 2012 GMV signed a contract with Thaicom Plc. for development and installation of the Thaicom 6 control center, including the real-time telemetry and telecommand processing system based on its inhouse hifly® product plus the flight dynamics system based on focusSuite and the antenna monitoring and control system based on magnet. Launched at the start of the year, Thaicom 6 is the second geostationary telecommunications satellite launched by SpaceX. Thaicom 6 is a Star 2 platform geostationary telecommunications spacecraft built by Orbital Sciences. Over the years GMV has forged a strong bond with Orbital Sciences and supports numerous Star 2 platform spacecraft.

This is the first control center to be delivered for the Thaicom mission, for which GMV has also supplied on-thespot training and support for post-launch missions. Thaicom 6 offers C-band and Ku-band services to South and Southeast Asia and Southern Africa. The satellite generates approximately 3.7 kilowatts of payload power and will be located at 78.5 degrees east longitude.
