GMV applies IoT sensors to the remote monitoring of environmental factors

Technological advances like the Internet of Things furnish us with alternative, lower-cost environmental-factor-monitoring methods that match any other system in efficiency. GMV’s longstanding environmental commitment is reflected in various air- and water-quality projects for the Regional Authority of Andalusia (Junta de Andalucía) and the development of “My2050” carbon calculators for Colombia, among other projects.

GMV has recently completed a water-control project using IoT SEMs for its client, the Regional Environment and Land-Use Ministry of Andalusia, helping to cut the regional authority’s power consumption and communications procedures while also reducing the need for on-the-spot visits by its technicians.

In the words of Ángel Cristóbal Lázaro, GMV’s enabling-technology expert “the reduced cost of the water-quality meters used on this platform will ensure a tighter control of the water network at a lower maintenance cost”.

This new platform will help the competent authorities to comply with Directive 98/83/EC on the quality of water intended for human consumption. This Directive lays down the requirement of taking all necessary measures to ensure that drinking water is free from any micro-organisms and parasites and from any substances which, in numbers or concentrations, constitute a potential danger to human health. The European Commission also needs to be furnished with the necessary information for drawing up three-yearly water-quality reports.
