Innovate4Climate
From June 23-25, Bilbao, Spain, will host the International "Innovate4Climate (IA4)" Conference, an annual conference hosted by the World Bank that brings together the public and private sectors to address issues pertaining to climate finance and investment, carbon markets and business models for emerging products and technologies.
As part of this event, on May 24 GMV, in collaboration with the World Bank and the European Space Agency, is holding a workshop on "Digitalizing MRV for Agriculture using Earth Observation," focusing on applicable technology for improving greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in agriculture.
The workshop will outline how with the rapid pace of advancement in remote sensing techniques of estimating soil carbon content, machine learning and AI to process large data sets, and smart tools for on-site measurements, there is an opportunity to incentivize and reward farmers who change their practices by measuring, reporting, and verifying (MRV) the change in emissions at the level of farms with far greater accuracy at a lower cost. It will also put a spotlight on how the rapidly evolving digital payments scene can be an effective tool for farmers to be part of the industry's transformation.
