GMV gives its vision of "health 2.0"

In the seminar with journalists organized by Fundación IDIS, Carlos Royo, GMV’s Healthcare Business Development Manager, analyzed the “crucial” juncture of today’s healthcare sector, bound to ensure the ongoing continuity of the health service while undergoing a game-changing technological revolution itself. He advocated the complementary values of a mixed private-public system and described today’s model of patient, who is being “empowered” by being placed in the center of the system and is demanding a top-quality service. Today’s technology “not only brings expert information on their illnesses within patients’ reach at one click but also provides objective data for measuring results”.

He also reflected on the speed with which the Internet of Things is now generating vast amounts of information. By 2020 there will be over 25 million connected devices. IoT’s new information systems will provide radically different scenarios of monitoring, information culling, data distribution and automation and intelligence. Technology will also progress at an even quicker pace: “the new-fangled e-prescription will soon be a thing of the past; in no time at all the “pro-active” patient will be asking for home delivery of medication”.

The challenge of service providers in the Health 2.0 era, as spelled out by Carlos Royo, is to “interiorize this unstoppable process in which health-empowered citizens will have the knowledge and freedom to choose their health service provider”.
