Availability, integrity and identity as the main challenges for protecting Smart Cities

"Availability, integrity and identity as the main challenges for protecting Smart Cities" GMV’s Javier Zubieta

The Open Smart Security Day, organized by the publisher Borrmart, has proposed shared working of intelligent and groundbreaking solutions and technologies for smart cities and for business management, placing special stress on the security layer and solvency that these new technologies provide.

In Smart City initiatives the cybersecurity aspect is all too often overlooked, overridden by functionality and interoperability. The truth is that cities’ attack surface is extensive and completely exposed to a real and immediate peril. “The main threats involve availability, integrity and identity of these cities’ component devices” argued Javier Zubieta, Marketing and Communications Manager of GMV’s Secure e-Solutions sector during his intervention in the Smart Security Cities discussion panel. In this scenario it is vital to take cybersecurity and privacy into account from the Smart City design stage onwards and then incorporate it as a strategic pillar into all services and systems across the board.

We at GMV focus on the need of forestalling cyberattacks by integrated vulnerability management and prevention plans. Many of the threats faced by smart cities, after all, stem from the overlooking of this aspect in the initial phases.
