GMV provides Democratic National Convention with safe and reliable transport

Syncromatics, GMV’s ITS company in North America, has played a key role in the team providing safe and reliable transportation for delegates, media and VIP guests at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) recently held in Philadelphia.

The DNC committee asked Event Transportation Associates (ETA) to set up a temporary transit system capable of moving people from hotels scattered around the city and New Jersey to various convention sites. As an ETA contractor, Syncromatics provided computer-aided dispatching and automatic vehicle-location software as well as a real-time passenger-information website so delegates could quickly check the location of their bus and transit time to their convention venues.

The Convention was held from 25 to 28 July in Philadelphia as the final culminating act of a whole year of primaries and nominations, resulting in the official choice of Hillary Clinton as the Democratic Party’s candidate for the US presidential election.

In the span of only 48 hours GMV’s US ITS company managed to install GPS tracking devices on the fleet of over 400 buses sourced from over 20 private and public fleets in the area. Syncromatics also provided web-based dispatching technology to power the central bus operations command center and feed data to the City of Philadelphia’s Emergency Operations Center. The software provided route-based assignments for each vehicle, enabling dispatchers to head off service disruptions and take proactive measures to ensure passenger safety and troubleshoot potential issues.

In addition to behind-the-scenes dispatching, GMV’s US ITS company hosted a public website to enable convention-goers to track their buses in real time. Over 10,000 users logged onto the mobile responsive website during the Convention.

GMV has been trading in the USA since 2004 and has by now built up a wide range of technological services and products adapted to suit the US market. GMV’s groundbreaking fleet-management and passenger-information systems have now been taken up by more than 40 pubic-transport authorities and operators from diverse US states, running between them a fleet over 1400 vehicles. One of its flagship clients is the Los Angeles Department of Transport (LADOT).
