With the aim of setting out the game-changing developments in medicine over recent years, the Observatorio Zeltia and the Cátedra Innovación, Salud y Comunicación have organized together the colloquy-conference “TIC, una oportunidad en auge” (ICTs, a booming opportunity).

In the words of Doctor Fernando Mugarza, Communications Director of Grupo Zeltia “we are currently in the throes of an authentic revolution; many sectors of the population do not have sufficient information to appreciate the added value that new ICTs could provide in terms of comfort, health and wellbeing." Despite this, ICTs still account for only 1.4% of public health expenditure.

GMV has taken part in this conference as a firm that has been working hard towards ICT takeup in healthcare, developing many trailblazing technological solutions that offer new opportunities for greatly improving the resources and techniques available to healthcare professionals and managers, all with the overall end of improving the quality of life of the public at large.

“GMV is working towards ICT takeup throughout the whole healthcare chain, concentrating on time- and money-saving services that improve healthcare while cutting costs, creating more sustainable healthcare models” explained Luis Fernando Álvarez-Gascón, General Manager of the company. “At GMV we keep up a constant expenditure in inhouse R&D, spending about 8% of our turnover on this research, to be added to the innovation activities we develop with our clients”. “Spain needs to return to the path of innovative investment to keep up its competitiveness and bolster the sustainability of its public healthcare system, favoring the development of competitive, export-intensive industrial projects”.

For her part, Inmaculada Pérez, Director of GMV’s eastern region, argued that the new ICTs “offer a seedbed for designing systems that can compare information and predict the future; bring healthcare services closer to those who need them by means of state-of-the-art telemedicine and mobility, building up a healthcare model accessible to one and all; obtain the maximum clinical information on each patient to personalize the healthcare given; provide health services that favor self-training and -management by chronic patients, support for diagnoses and treatment based on comparable clinical evidence and awareness of the risk factors in the interests of minimizing the impact of diseases and epidemics”.
