On 19 November last Madrid’s Ritz hotel hosted the prize-giving ceremony of the Madrid Region Business Success Awards, given by the trade review Actualidad Económica in collaboration with Bankia. GMV was awarded the Innovation Prize in recognition of its 30-year track record in the development of hi-tech solutions and innovation.

Miguel Ángel Belloso, the editor of Actualidad Económica, opened the ceremony and welcomed the guests, who included leading figures from regional politics, economics and business. Among them featured Madrid’s regional Minister of Economics, Employment and Finance, Engracia Hidalgo, who stressed companies’ power as driving forces of the economy "because they are the true generators of jobs”. She defined their work as "essential for the progress of the whole region".

Juan Carlos Llorente, Advisor of the CEO and GMV’s Director of ITER/Robotics Business Development received the company’s Innovation Prize. As well as GMV, another seven companies won prizes in various categories. The Best Businessperson prize fell to Alberto Méndez, President and CEO of BQ; the Prize for the Best Business Trajectory went to HM Hospitales; the jury recognized the NH Eurobuilding hotel, and in particular its latest remodeling, with the Best Business Initiative Prize; the National Archaeology Museum won the award for Best Public Initiative; the Surprise Package Prize went to the technology firm Expace; the Best International Strategy Prize was won by the catering company Mediterránea; last but not least, the Spanish supermarket chain Distribuidora Internacional de Alimentación (DIA) made off with the Job Creation Prize.

This is the fourth time that GMV has received an accolade from Actualidad Económica. Indeed, over the last 5-10 years GMV has featured three times among the publication’s “100 best ideas of the year” on the strength of three groundbreaking developments: the virtual reality arthroscopy trainer, insightARTHRO VR®, the game-changing K9 search-and-rescue support system, Osmógrafo, and the Atlas system that connects the Blackberry server with email architectures based on open-source software.
