The operational phase of Trident Juncture 2015 comes to an end

Trident Juncture 0

Trident Juncture 2015, a high visibility exercise to showcase NATO on the world stage, has been running for almost two months now; one of the countries hosting the exercise this year is Spain. Trident Juncture 2015 (TRJE15) involves over 30,000 personnel from more than 30 nations and its purpose is to train and test the NATO Response Force 2016 (NRF 16), a high readiness and technologically advanced force capable of being deployed quickly on operations wherever needed.

As we announced in previous press releases Spanish SAPIIEM systems have been providing JISR-capacity support for the various command levels. SAPIIEM is the result of a project driven by the Directorate General of Armaments and Material (Dirección General de Armamento y Material: DGAM) and being carried out by GMV. Its purpose is to ensure interoperability of ISR resources, thus maximizing the military usefulness of this information in a coalition.

The TRJE15 assessment process to certify the LCC command post as an NRF force laid particular stress on the SAPIIEM-supported JISR capacity, which has now acquired Initial Operational Capability (IOC). It was pointed out that its operational level is higher than the rest of the forces of the integrated command structure and the NATO Force Structure.

GMV personnel have been present at these exercises to provide support for the deployment, operation and maintenance of SAPIIEM service infrastructure and also for operational personnel using SEISMO and ATENEA applications developed in the framework of this project.

On 30 October GMV personnel were lucky enough to be able to greet His Majesty King Felipe VI during his visit to the exercises being held in the San Gregorio maneuvers camp. During this visit the king stressed the “immense” effort being made by Spain on these maneuvers and the important role being played by Spanish technology in JISR capacity.

Last but not least, a live military demonstration of Allied forces working together was held on 4 November. This demonstration was attended by the Spanish Defense Minister, the Chief of Staff of the Defense and the NATO Secretary General, as well as diverse authorities from different countries.
