On 25 and 26 February GMV’s head office in the Madrid Technology Park hosted the Systems Concepts and Integration Panel (SCI) meeting, forming part of the working methodology of the Science and Technology Organisation (STO) within NATO’s science-technology program.

The meeting, held under the title “Collaborative Space Domain Awareness Data Collection and Fusion Experiment”, was attended by representatives from NATO member countries, the Spanish Ministry of Defense and the Space Surveillance Operations Center (Centro de Operaciones de Vigilancia Espacial: COVE) and the worldwide space industry.

The first day kicked off with a display of GMV’s defense and security capabilities in the aeronautics and space sectors, focusing on its inhouse Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) developments. The meeting continued with a stocktaking of this expert panel’s progress and new goals in relation to SST procedures, metrics and tools.

The Science and Technology Organization (STO) encourages science and technology research as a strategic driving force, taking in a wide range of skills. These skills are dealt with by 5 specialist panels (AVT, Applied Vehicle Technology; HFM, Human Factors and Medicine; IST, Information Systems Technology; SAS, System Analysis and Studies; SET, Sensors and Electronics Technology, and SCI itself) plus a NATO Modelling and Simulation (NMS) working group. STO’s remit is to set up a cutting-edge, guideline science and technology program to boost capabilities in defense, crisis management and cooperative safety of NATO and its allies and members.

SCI’s particular mission is to enhance knowledge of advanced systems, concepts, integration, engineering techniques and technologies across the spectrum of platforms and operating environments to assure cost-effective mission area capabilities. Since it first kicked off in 2018 it has striven to bring together efforts, skills and information in the space domain.
