GMV attends the Quantum Matter International Conference 2023

GMV presente en la Conferencia Internacional Quantum Matter 2023

From May 23-25, the Quantum Matter International Conference 2023 was held at the Pablo VI Event Space in Madrid. This gathering was made possible thanks to the combined efforts of its organizers from DIPC, ICN2, CSIC, and the Phantoms Foundation, with support from QTEP-CSIC, BIST, ICREA, and Quantum Spain.

GMV had a notable presence and influence at this conference, which was focused on the possibilities and applications for quantum matter, while acting as a catalyst for new ideas and collaborations in this highly active field. As a sponsor and exhibitor at the event, GMV was able to showcase its experience, innovations, and commitment to driving advances in the quantum industry.

Represented through attendance by Enrique Crespo, Rogelio Belmonte, and Antón Makarov, GMV demonstrated its enthusiasm for supporting the quantum community’s growth and development. By aligning its brand with this high-profile event, GMV is consolidating its position as a key player in the quantum panorama, and emphasizing its commitment to expanding the limits of quantum technologies.

One example of this is CUCO, which is the first project in Spain focused on quantum computing at the national and commercial levels. Led by GMV, this project’s consortium is made up of six companies (BBVA, DAS Photonics, GMV, Multiverse Computing, Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech, and Repsol); five research centers (BSC, CSIC, DIPC, ICFO, and Tecnalia), and one public university (Universitat Politècnica de València, known as UPV).

The CUCO project has received financial backing from Spain’s Center for Technological and Industrial Development (CDTI), with additional support from the Ministry of Science and Innovation as part of the country’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The project’s aim is to investigate how quantum computing can be applied in strategic industries such as industry, finance, space, defense, and logistics. Thanks to this collaboration, research is now being performed on quantum computing solutions that can be applied to fields such as Earth observation and the fight against climate change. There are other applications too, including information traceability in the supply chain, and optimization and simulation of complex financial calculations.

In addition, GMV and Qilimanjaro will be responsible for building the first quantum computer for the Spanish Supercomputing Network. That computer will be installed later this year at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center - National Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS), to become part of the MareNostrum 5 supercomputer, which is the most powerful computer in Spain and one of the most advanced in Europe and the world.

Technologies for quantum key distribution (QKD) between the Earth and space segments have also been represented, through leading manufacturers such as QTLABS. In this area, GMV is now developing important aspects that include, among others, the space segment, the key management, and the BB84 system, which is implementing QKD for the Caramuel mission. With its technical viability phase completed during the summer of 2022, the project is expected to begin during the upcoming months.
