By a conference delivered by Rafael Navajo, Head of International Business Development for Health of GMV, and Rafael Garcia, Director of Business Development Health of Ever Salud, they presented the details of this tele-pediatricians platform that can already be operative in schools of Spain. Children today spend a great part of the day in schools and often suffer minor accidents calling for attention from a medical specialist, who then diagnoses the injury and weighs up the seriousness of each particular case. This new system benefits all three main stakeholders: the school is able to cope better with daily mishaps and incidents; parents can rest assured that their children are being cared for by medical specialists at all times and the children themselves are ensured quick, top-quality healthcare. GMV and EVER SALUD have set up KIDSCARE, an in-school telemedicine pediatrics service, which works as follows. The whole process kicks off with parental consent for their children to be opted into the system. Once this approval has been received, the system generates school-based appointments for remote medical consultations with a specialist doctor. The school is thus provided with a teleconsultation kit, an advanced telemedicine system for remote carrying out of various medical checks with digital stethoscope, temperature readings, line-scan camera, heart rate monitor, etc... all allowing the specialist to come to a decision on the state of the child and the best procedure from then on. The system allows three crucial consultation points to be interconnected by teleconference: firstly, the children’s school, where they are treated and accompanied at all times by teaching staff; secondly, the specialist medical team of EVER SALUD, in this case the pediatrician; and lastly the children’s parents, who can if they wish form part of the teleconsultation by remote connection. These are the essential points for the teleconsultation to be carried out as though they were all face to face in the specialist’s surgery. At the end of the consultation the pediatrician sends the recommendations to the school and the consultation report and diagnosis to the parents. All this information is then included in the child’s electronic medical record. The telemedicine platform lying behind this groundbreaking service is antari primary care, an innovative telemedicine system developed by GMV. This project brings out once more the great impact of technology in the healthcare world. Developments like telemedicine reveal the host of opportunities and possibilities that exist nowadays in this field. This alliance between GMV and EVER SALUD represents a significant stride towards real applications in such an advanced health service as Spain’s, in which developments of this type and cutting-edge technology are playing a crucial role.
