ALD introduces a corporate car-sharing system using GMV technology of GMV
GMV, as part of its ongoing drive to produce more sustainable mobility models, has developed and set up a car-sharing system for ALD Automotive, the fleet-management and vehicle-renting company of Société Générale Group.
Car-sharing is a shared mobility scheme in which a firm running a fleet of vehicles provides its potential users with vehicles for previously booked short periods of time. This rental scheme provides a very responsive, flexible and adaptable way of using vehicles, making it a real alternative to owning a vehicle for private use. Car-sharing plays a key role in the pursuit of a sustainable, multimodal and intermodal mobility policy, helping to cut down private vehicle use, increase the use of public transport and reduce mobility-related energy consumption.
GMV’s system takes in all necessary technological component that will allow ALD Automotive to offer its clients, who include Danone, 3M, Sacyr, Iberdrola and Altadis, a “corporate car-sharing” scheme. This is a complete and modern solution allowing each firm to organize and streamline shared vehicle use among its employees. As well as cutting fleet costs this system will also help to improve city mobility and cut down pollution.
GMV’s relationship with ALD Automotive dates back to 2011. In that year both companies collaborated in an important pilot fleet-management contract with ALD’s prime clients. After the success of this project GMV and ALD signed a framework agreement under which ALD marketed an advanced fleet management system called Profleet2, based on GMV technology and phasing in many new benefits for its fleet clients. Since 2011 GMV has also been collaborating in ALD Ecomotion Tour, an annual trial organized by ALD
Automotive, which aims to prove that efficient driving can cut down the average fuel consumption figures quoted by each manufacturer. For this trial GMV fits its U10 onboard unit on all participating vehicles. This unit then sends on relevant information every 15 seconds to Palview, an inhouse GMV development that draws up a complete report on vehicle performance, checkpoint passing times and speed distribution.
GMV and ALD also collaborate in other mobility endeavors. About half way through this year ALD will offer its clients a car-pooling arrangement, a cost-cutting system allowing private cars to be shared for routine trips. This system is likewise based on an inhouse GMV development. Users need only to register on a website and then look for journeys they wish to join in or offer their own cars for both one-off and periodic journeys, always indicating the itinerary and the departure date and time.
