GNSS software receiver for all types of space missions
The European Space Agency (ESA) has awarded GMV a project that aims to develop a purely software-based GNSS receiver. This approach will provide intrinsic flexibility and adaptive capabilities to suit the needs of each particular mission.
GMV’s software will comprise two major elements: GNSS Signal Processing software and Navigation Filter software. It is complemented by the minimum required hardware: the antenna and a signal front-end.
The project, to be carried out by GMV’s Polish subsidiary, is based on GMV’s tried-and-tested terrestrial mass-market solution. Proof of Concept will be demonstrated in a dedicated test bench based on a space-representative processor and Spirent simulated GNSS signals.
This represents the first step towards GMV’s creation of a fully space-qualified GNSS software receiver to be used for low earth orbit (LEO) missions, including POD, AOCS and Relative GNSS applications as well as Geostationary Orbit missions.
