“The need for cybersecurity governance is growing”

Every year the Valencia Chapter of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA-CV) holds a national congress to generate and share knowledge. In this year’s 9th Congress, held recently, Julio Vivero, Head of the Consultancy and Infrastructure Area of GMV’s Barcelona Office, gave a paper called "The 6 Ws of cybersecurity governance (What, Why, Where, When, Who and hoW)". His speech stressed that “the importance of information in organizations is growing; the number of cybersecurity regulations being enforced on companies is increasing; cybersecurity is now big news and cybersecurity responsibility is given to the highest management level”. The upshot is, he said, “that the need for cybersecurity governance is growing”. The board of directors “has to define the best-fit cybersecurity strategy and allocate the necessary resources to ensure efficient implementation and an across-the-board cybersecurity culture in the company”. As well as delving into all these issues his paper also gave some guidelines on the most important aspects to take into account and the keys to setting up an efficient cybersecurity-governance system that suits the idiosyncratic features of each organization.

The congress attracted an impressive roll call of professionals, including Ángel Gómez de Ágreda, Chief of Cooperation of the Joint Cyberdefense Command; Fabrice Wawak, Doctor in Information Processing, Soft Computing and Robotics from L'université Lille (University of Science and Technology) in Lille, France, and Ricard Martínez Martínez, President of the Spanish Professional Privacy Association. The congress ended with the ISACA 2015 Prize-giving Ceremony and the closing addresses of Alberto Hernández Moreno, Operations Director of the National Cybersecurity Institute (Instituto Nacional de Ciberseguridad: INCIBE) and Roberto Soriano Doménech, President of ISACA Valencia.
