Fragility, a new concept of health that should help mitigate the dependence of people with elderly

GMV presented its proposal for Telemedicine to prevent and stop the situation of functional impairment.

The health concept of fragility, a special state of vulnerability of older people whose risk of disability can become elevated, it has emerged in the last two decades and is one of the most innovative in the field of Health and social sciences. Recognize and understand the fragility is a change of mentality, leaving behind the strategies focused on the treatment of diseases to address other that are based on the detection and intervention in the early stages of functional impairment.

In the workshop "The Fragility: A social challenge that requires integrated solutions" organized by the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and Abbott supported by EIT Health Spain, the Institute for Bioengineering of Cataluña (IBEC) and the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, where GMV has participated as a member of the European project FACET (FrAilty Care and wEll funcTion) delved into this concept that represents a challenge to be faced by health systems.

As stated Rafael Navajo, Manager of Business Development Health at GMV, in his speech "more than 40% of adults over 50 years old experience some functional limitation, about 40% of the elderly population can be identified as pre-frail and 15% as fragile or slightly disabled", for that reason, "antari HomeCare" the first telemedicine platform that allows monitoring and remote monitoring of chronic patients with one or more diseases, storing and managing their health data, as well as the planning and monitoring of therapies becomes a competent tool to prolong the independence and health of the elderly".

FACET

Within the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation in the UE Horizon 2020 and under the umbrella of the EIT Health. GMV with companies and organizations such as Abbott, the Polytechnical University of Madrid, the Madrid Health Service, Atos, the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM); Aberystwyth University and PREMAP has launched the FACET project (FrAilty Care and wEll funcTion), which aims to improve the quality of life of 13.05 million people.

To do this, FACET aims to promote greater independence and self-management of the health of elderly and adults in state prefragility. Live longer and live healthy are different realities. Improve the quality of life of older Europeans will be feasible with tools for early detection of the fragility and intervention to prevent or delay the onset of frailty and disability associated with it.

The platform that develop the FACET project will provide: Acquisition of biometrics and behavioural data, nutritional functional and cognitive; data fusion, eliminating irrelevant and integrating data from different sources; generating alerts based on clinical evidence based on rules; providing advice on physical activity and nutrition, based on clinical evidence and patient's functional status and basic modules for predicting health conditions.

Considering that the OEDC employs over 70% of the budget of Health to the population over 65 years old, proposals like antari Home Care and application of technologies 4.0 help health systems to reduce the threat of disability and dependence in an aging society.
