GMV awarded a prize by the British Embassy in Spain for its commitment to the space industry
On November 19, GMV was awarded a prize by the British Embassy in Spain in the fifth edition of the UK-Spain Business Awards 2024, an event that recognizes outstanding companies for their contribution to the strengthening of trade relations and economic growth between Spain and the United Kingdom. This year, GMV received the award in the category “Commitment to the UK's space sector”, a recognition that highlights its unwavering commitment to the development of the country's space sector and its contribution to economic progress. Mónica Martínez Walter, GMV's president, accepted the award from Poppy Gustafsson, Minister of State for Investment in the United Kingdom.
GMV's commitment to the British space industry can be seen in the company's activities in the country, most notably those focused on the space segment (guidance, navigation, and control systems), the ground segment (development of control centers for telecommunication satellites, data processing systems for earth observation missions or applications using space data and technologies) and robotics.
GMV also offers advanced solutions in areas like earth observation, surveillance, and tracking of space debris, mission planning, flight dynamics, navigation and autonomy, collaborating with organizations like the European Space Agency (ESA), the UK Space Agency (UKSA) and the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL). GMV's main clients in the UK also include companies such as Innovate UK, Satellite Applications Catapult, the Science Technology Facility Council (STFC), and key commercial clients.
In 2023, the UK Space Agency selected GMV as one of the leading space technology development companies. Through the Enabling Technologies Program (ETP), GMV received funding of 250,000 pounds (277,776 euros) to carry out the “REALM: Virtual Reality Aided Spacecraft Refuelling for IOSM Verification & Validation” project.
This ambitious project is just one example of the cutting-edge technologies being rolled out by GMV in the UK, including the UKSBAS demonstration system, which has successfully demonstrated the capacity of British industry, including GMV, to transmit an SBAS test signal, thus contributing to technological progress in the sector. With these projects, GMV is strengthening the economic ties between Spain and the UK, positioning itself as a crucial player in international technological progress.
It warrants mentioning that, for the sixth year running, the UK remains one of Europe's favorite destinations for international investment by Spanish firms and continues to be one of the main European investors in Spain. These figures reflect the solid collaboration and close economic ties between the two countries, with GMV playing a fundamental role in the space sector.
