GMV joins EIT-Health, Europe’s biggest healthcare innovation organization
Last December the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) designated EIT-Health as a “Knowledge and Innovation Community” (KIC). This is Europe’s biggest innovation and entrepreneurship initiative to promote healthy living and active ageing.
EIT Health is a consortium of 144 leading firms, research centers and universities from across 14 EU countries. Working with a total budget of 2.1 billion euros, it is one of the most ambitious healthcare initiatives ever carried out with public money.
GMV is one of the firms making up the Spanish node, EIT Health Spain, headquartered in Barcelona’s Science Park (Parque Científico) and led by Barcelona University together with 25 organizations – universities, businesses, research centers, hospitals and technology centers – all leaders in their sector and committed to healthcare innovation and improving the quality of life of Spain’s citizens.
By the end of 2016 the consortium hopes to generate close to eighty new business ideas, building up to one hundred and forty by 2018. The aim is to generate about seventy startups per year and involve a million students in EIT Health-driven programs.
