GMV signs up Vice Admiral Fernando del Pozo as company consultant

GMV has secured the services of Vice Admiral Fernando del Pozo as defense and security consultant. In particular he will advise the company on NATO-related matters, open up new growth outlets and help to pinpoint activities in other countries.

The Vice Admiral, now aged 67, began his military career in 1961 in the Naval Academy. In 1966 he was commissioned Sub-Lieutenant and was then promoted to Vice Admiral in December 2003.

From 1989 to 1992 he was a member of the Working Group for the development of the MNCs-CHOD Spain Coordination Agreements. From 1993 to 1997 he served as head of the General/Strategic Plans Branch in the Navy Staff. In 1997-98 he was appointed Commander of NATO’s Standing Naval Force Mediterranean (STANAVFORMED).

From 1998 to 2001 he was Deputy SACLANTREPEUR in NATO HQ in Brussels and in 2001 he was appointed Deputy CINC SOUTHLANT. In 2004 NATO’s Military Committee appointed him Director of the International Military Staff (IMS).

After standing down as IMS Director in 2007 at the end of his active naval career, he joined the Real Instituto Elcano (RIE) to run a project on NATO and the European Union, writing several articles and essays and giving lectures for the RIE and other institutions. In July 2009, together with four other retired admirals from the UK, France, Germany and Italy, he was elected by the European Defence Agency to set up a think tank for improving maritime safety in the European Union. The group, called Wise Pens, is still advising the European Union today.

Fernando del Pozo incorporation will bring further top-level expertise and guidance in the new relations being built up by GMV with defense organizations, institutions and industries.
