A look at the industry marked by automation and 5G

Una mirada a la industria marcada por la automatización y el 5G

Collaborate People & Data 2022, an event organized by Atlas Tecnológico, brought together more than 200 executives from the Industry 4.0 ecosystem in Spain to discuss the data economy and the challenges opening up at the seams of the physical and digital worlds. The event took place at the ZEUS office in the Marina de València and featured speakers from companies such as GMV, Estrella de Levante, Primafrio, Valencia CF, Acceleration, Eurocat, Ideas for Change, Ayesa, and Trolli.

Ángel C. Lázaro, the head of Robotics and Automation for GMV’s Industry sector, explained that “deriving value from data is hugely important, but we also need to pay special attention to the means we use to get these data, as well as their application in industrial processes.”

The expert cited the trend related to the use of 5G: “This technology offers us an immense opportunity and has several features (faster speed, greater connection and lower latency) which mean more durable batteries, a greater ability to produce big data and a better configuration of springboards for the Internet of Things, edge computing and other technologies giving rise to new business models.”

Automation in industrial processes presents a recurring pyramid. However, at present, “it has transformed into a fog where new networks and application models appear, such as data, intelligence, and artificial vision platforms.”

During his talk, he showed examples of automation lines in which 5G acts as an enabler, such as the cloud-based, high-precision outdoor navigation system for collaborative robotics, and the solution for deploying, managing, and securely operating the control systems involved in an industrial plant’s operation and control network.
